ABOUT THE EVENT
Walk the Working Waterfront is a free-to-attend, self guided walking tour proudly celebrating the people, businesses, and infrastructure that comprise the heart of Portland’s ocean economy. Now in its 6th year, this annual, community-centered affair was created to encourage visitors to discover firsthand what life on the historic Commercial Street waterfront is like. From Becky’s Diner to the Maine State Pier, attendees are welcomed into dozens of businesses, taken onto select commercial vessels for tours, and encouraged to explore the piers in new ways, while taking plenty of pictures along the way.
As always, the walking portion of the day is free and open to all, along with activities that include walking tours of the historic waterfront, tours of the Coast Guard vessels, as well as demonstration/education stations. There will also be many other specials on offer for purchase if you so choose, from happy hours, to historical cruises that travel up and down the piers, to an oyster happy hour cruise out into Casco Bay. The day is yours!

original Russ Cox Piece represented by Casco Bay Artisans to be auctioned off with a portion of proceeds benefitting Friends of Casco bay
Maine artist Russ Cox is graciously showing his support of the mixed-use working waterfront community through the creation and auctioning of an original piece. Inspired by seaweed found along the Maine coast, this 48" x 60" canvas titled "Casco Bay Rockweed" will be represented at the Casco Bay Artisans gallery on Maine Wharf, and auctioned off in the days following the event. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Friends of Casco Bay. To see the piece or place a bid, please visit or call Casco Bay Artisans.
Historical waterfront boat tour
The Portland Historical Waterfront Tour is a 90 minute cruise that will travel out into Portland harbor, meandering slowly up and down the historic waterfronts of Portland and South Portland. The Fogg's Boatworks team is pleased to introduce their brand new Casco Bay Cat, a comfortably quick taxi and charter vessel capable of carrying up to 49 passengers that is equipped with a PA system perfect for educational tours. Local waterfront historian Jon Johansen will be onboard sharing stories of the many finger piers, commercial fishing and leisure vessels, and waterfront buildings you'll see along the way.
